From the report on cloth and Thai-Muslim way of life in 5 southern border provinces of Thailand by Asst. Prof. Chureerat Buakaew, a history scholar Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Prince of Songkla University Pattani Campus (Pattani University) stated that evidence was found that Lima cloth (Juan Tani) was traded during the Ayutthaya period until the early Rattanakosin era. “In the past, Muslim did not like to wear it. Silk will be the cloth of the rich and the noble. As for cotton, commoners and ordinary people will use it because silk is expensive. But now it's the middle class who prefers to wear it. The cotton production wass promoted because the price is lower.
